Abstract

The qualitative electronic structure-activity relationships, that had led some workers to suggest that hallucinogens, local anesthetics, and nicotinic agents exert their biological effect through the formation of charge-transfer complexes with the receptors, are tested statistically. The statistical test is found to support the suggestion along with the observation that in addition to the charge-transfer mechanism, a secondary binding is also involved in the activity of nicotinic agents.
