Abstract

Many vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselors in the state-federal public VR program are not satisfied with their clinical supervision. A qualitative grounded theory research design was used to study VR counselors' perceptions and descriptions of their clinical supervisory experiences and supervision needs. Datafrom interviews withfive VR counselors were analyzed and coded. Eight categories emerged from the data that describe a core phenomenon - VR counselors value and need clinical supervision. Results support previous research that indicates a need for a new service model in VR, one that values and prioritizes clinical supervision. Implications for clinical supervision practice in VR are discussed.
