Abstract
The chemical components of chromatin threads isolated from human leucocytes and of salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster have been analyzed by means of paper chromatography with the following results. 1. 1. No free amino acids have been found in these materials. 2. 2. The amino acids glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, serine, threonine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine, arginine and taurine (?) have been demonstrated in the chromatin threads isolated from human leucocytes hydrolyzed in HCl. 3. 3. In the salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster the amino acids glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, arginine and proline have been demonstrated in the hydrolyzate in HCl or NaOH. 4. 4. The presence of tryptophane has not been ascertained. 5. 5. Proline has been demonstrated only in the salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster.
