Abstract
A DC-DC buck-boost converter (BBC) based on the quasi impedance source converter (q-ZSC) topology was recently proposed. The ideal gain of the converter is the same as that of BBC. These shared properties of the BBC and q-ZSC give it some advantages over each of them. Its continuous gain curve gives it advantages over the q-ZSC with discontinuous gain while its higher gain magnitude edges it over that with a single gain curve. It’s topology edge it over corresponding BBC by permitting smaller components usage due to higher frequency operation, elimination of dead time, shoot-through effects etc. A 50 KHz asymmetric mini prototype was developed and experimental results confirmed its operation.
