Abstract

This paper gives a mathematical solution of a standard problem in one-dimensional heat conduction. It is intended to clarify the steps involved in solving certain boundary-value problems. Fourier series and integrals are involved, and the use of the probability integral is necessary for the final solution. Graphs of the original and final conditions are drawn to scale.
