Abstract

Abstract Studies of future energy and water needs in Egypt showed the possibility of introducing nuclear power plants. Multi-stage flash-vertical tube evaporator coupling to such a plant could result in relatively cheap water desalination. Overall reactor design methodologies including physical, thermal lifetime and economic analyses were developed and verified with published data. A computer program was prepared and its use in overall plant optimization studies was indicated. Preliminary features for a 400 MW(e), 250 mgd, PWR plant were outlined. Complementary optimization studies are pointed out.
