Abstract
A 3-terminal micrometer capacitor of 4 pF range is described, wherein the direct capacitance is between electrodes in the form of concentric cylinders. Capacitance is varied by moving a cylindrical guard into the annular space between the main electrodes. The guard electrode is carried on a micrometer screw engaging a split nut, giving longitudinal displacement free from backlash. The instrument has a linear range of 1-5 pF, subdivided to read 0.001 pF.
