Abstract
A system of eight lead-glass Cerenkov counters, each coupled to a veto scintillation counter, was used at Frascati in a measurement of the Primakoff effect in the π0 photoproduction on complex nuclei (1). The system as a whole is a precision π0 detector: pion angle and energy are measured with a precision near to the limit attainable with present-day techniques. In the first part of the work we have discussed the problem of measuring with high resolution the four-momentum of neutral pion of ≈1 GeV energy. In the second part, a description of the detector is given. Finally, in the third part, the Monte Carlo calculation of the detector efficiency is described.
