Abstract

A posteriori error estimation in finite element analysis for elastodynamic problem is considered. The difficulty in elastodynamic promblem is in its parabolic nature and error need to be integrated with respect to time. It was shown that by using element wise error estimation, the total error becomes inaccurate due to accumulation of error in estimation of each time step. For this, the authors propose to estimate the error introduced in single time step of integration. It was shown that the proposed method gives better estimation compared with the error estimation with static assumption. The estimated error is considered to be quite useful in adaptive remeshing procedure.
