Abstract
We develop a possible modified Veneziano amplitude relevant to any even number of pions. The amplitudes possess π− and ϱ-trajectory structure with the features that there is no spin-0 particle on the ϱ-trajectory, and that appropriate factorization into lower amplitudes occurs at pion poles with the Lovelace 4 π amplitude as as the basic unit. We investigate the leading trajectory spectrum by looking at the factorization properties of the general amplitude, and find that the ϱ is at least doubled and that we can accomodaate the A 1 only at the expense of spin-2 ghosts on the leading trajectories. In the theory with no A 1 the π− and ϱ-trajectories are singly and doubly degenerate respectively.
