Abstract
Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a new surveillance technology designed to help modernize the air traffic management and monitoring. ADS-B system can identify and locate aircrafts within the coverage area to help ground stations control the air traffic. The ADS-B receiver can receive ADS-B signals from civil aviation aircrafts. Furthermore, it may play an important role in the surveillance of small-unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) due to the flexibility of the portable ADS-B receiver. In this paper, a portable civil aviation ADS-B receiver is developed. It consists of five modules, including power supply module, wireless signal reception module, message detection module, message decoding module and data visualization module. Wireless signal reception module receives ADS-B wireless signals from the civil aviation aircrafts. Then the received analog signals are sampled and extracted to obtain a stable S-mode ADS-B message with the help of FPGA in message detection module. Flight information is obtained by decoding ADS-B message in message decoding module and then displayed on the simulated radar screen. In order to verify the effect of the device, experiments were carried out at Xianyang Airport. The results tell that the device can simultaneously detect 80 aircrafts in at least 150 km accurately.
