Abstract

A semi-empirical formula for the full energy peak efficiency ofhigh-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors in the range from 4 to 3000 keV ispresented. The formula is based on physically sound premises and features avery low number of free parameters, all of which are physically founded andexhibit physically viable values. The model furnishes very good fits and wassuccessfully tested against a number of experimental efficiency curvesmeasured with point sources on n- and p-type HPGe detectors.
