Abstract

Abstract Strontium barium niobate (SBN) of the tetragonal tungsten bronze structure is a well known dielectric relaxor. In the present paper, the relaxor behavior which is a manifestation of the diffuse phase transition (DPT) characteristics is further pursued in a La-substituted SBN ceramics by the photoacoustic (PA) technique. An abrupt change of the PA signal of the pure and modified specimens shows another transition below the para-ferroelectric transition. Besides the diffuse ferroelectric phase transition the corresponding dielectric transition is located near room temperature in the modified SBN ceramics under a dc bias.
