Abstract
The importance of drainage density has long been recognised, but no rapid and inexpensive method exists for mapping its spatial distribution. A method based upon photo-mechanical changes of line weight is suggested. This is based upon the use of a whirling illuminator, and offers an effective means of mappi1lg density. Some of the problems inherent in the technique are outlined, and its use is illustrated by a map of the drainage density of the London region.
