Abstract

The decision to seek foreign education is a significant life event that occurs with little knowledge about the nature of higher education in the American college environment. Nigerian students seek higher education in the United States for various reasons, such as access to quality education, life exposure, better employment opportunities, and family prestige. This study aimed to explore an under-researched population: Nigerian International students in Community Colleges. The literature review showed that Nigerian students, while appreciative of the opportunity to study in the U.S., face challenges not limited to socio-cultural conflicts, discriminations, emotional stress, and financial difficulties.
