Abstract

A phase synthesis method for reflectarray antenna (RA) in high-power microwave (HPM) applications is proposed. In order to illustrate the advantages of this method, a compact all-metal phasing element (CAPE), which has a simple structural configuration and some defects in performance, is proposed. After the optimization by the phasing synthesis method, the performance of the RA composed of CAPE has been greatly improved, its aperture efficiency increased from 55% to 64.68%, and the main beam direction is closer to the theoretical value, while its sidelobe level is reduced by 7 dB. The obtained results are in good agreement with the numerical calculation. In addition, its power handling capacity reaches 3.07 GW/m2 under vacuum conditions after optimization. This method has universality for the design of HPM RAs.
