Abstract

An S-band beam-shaping array antenna for high power microwave (HPM) application with low side lobes and high power capacity is proposed in this paper. The array composed by 12 pyramidal horns has a 2×6 triangular lattice configuration with large element spacing 1.28λ. A shaped beam synthesis approach to reduce grating lobes of large element spacing array antenna is introduced. Numerical simulation of the proposed beam shaping array antenna is conducted and the simulation results show that the side lobe level is about - 32.7dB in the azimuth plane and -14.7dB in the elevation plane. The power capacity of the designed pyramidal horn is about 2.3GW under the breakdown threshold of 50MV/m in high vacuum condition, proving that this array antenna is suitable for HPM application.
