Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the effects of maintenance activities on assignment and sequencing decisions in a job shop environment. We analyze and compare three different maintenance policies: one with no scheduled maintenance, one with scheduled maintenance activities but the time for maintenance is not considered in the assignment decisions, and one where scheduled maintenance activities are performed and the time for maintenance is part of the assignment decisions. The results indicate that companies benefit more when assignment and sequencing decisions integrate the time for maintenance activities.
