Abstract
4πβ-γ coincidence counting with efficiency extrapolation is the most common method for direct activity measurements in the radioactive decay of nuclides. A system has been developed which combines coincidence and anticoincidence counting as a check on systematic uncertainties. Suitable electronic components feed into scalers and a multichannel pulse height analyzer that are both housed in a personal computer. This provides a relatively inexpensive system for data acquisition and data reduction. The system has been used in BIPM comparisons of radioactivity.
