Abstract

An approach of parametric local remelting (PLR) during selective laser melting (SLM) procedure was carried out based on 24CrNiMo steel. The specimens fabricated with this method exhibited an excellent combination of strength and ductility (tensile strength ~ 1303.3 MPa, yield strength ~ 1175.2 MPa and elongation ~ 16.2%) compared with the common near-fully dense counterpart (tensile strength ~ 1252.6 MPa, yield strength ~ 1108.6 MPa and elongation ~ 14.0%). The performance presents a periodic mechanical distribution, leading to a more uniform deformation along the loading direction. This developed approach would be beneficial to the mechanical design and manufacture for SLM process almost without additional cost.
