Abstract

Abstract A numerical model is used to examine the response of the Hauraki Gulf to the M2 tide. Comparisons are made between observed data and model results. Over the inner Gulf the M2 tide behaves as a standing wave while in the outer areas, up to 30% of the M2 tide is attributable to progressive waves. Residual tidal currents are weak, generally being less than 1 cm/s.
