Abstract

This paper presents a new technique for optimal efficiency control (OEC) of three-phase induction motor (IM) fed by a AC chopper or voltage regulator with pulse-width modulated (PWM) controller based on the concept of instantaneous power theory (IPT) or p-q theory. This strategy allows decoupled control of real and imaginary instantaneous powers and their components in the motor and almost unity power-factor on the mains side of the driver. This paper outlines the basic algorithm, circuit diagram, experimental test study and simulation results of the proposed method and its performance. It is also presented the experimental results of OEC of the IM implemented by an autotransformer.
