Abstract

The paper makes a comparative study among the different Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques including – Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM), Sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and Multiple PWM (MPWM). These techniques are defined, examined and compared to generate gate pulses for a three phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The modulation index is varied for achieving the comparative analysis of these techniques. Pulse Width Modulation techniques are preferred because of low harmonic content obtained in the output voltage and current, fixed switching frequency and higher utilization of the DC bus. Also, SVPWM is then used for achieving V/f control of squirrel cage Induction Motor having different power ratings.
