Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate optimization process parameters for friction stir welding (FSW) for an optimal parameter combination to have better hardness and tensile strength using COPRAS decision model. The friction stir welding parameters considered are tool rotational speed (r.p.m), welding speed (mm/min), dwell time (min) and tool tilt angle (degree). Taguchi L9 orthogonal array design of experiments is used to perform the functions. Multi criteria decision model using COPRAS (COmplex PRoportional ASsessment) is proposed to solve the problem. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to determine the percentage of contribution of the given process parameters. Finally confirmation test is carried out to verify the outcome.
