Abstract

ABSTRACTA novel method of piezoelectric layer configuration is proposed for preventing cancellation of the positive and negative charges of piezoelectric flag in flow, which will effectively improve the energy harvesting performance. Vibration stain modes of piezoelectric flag are identified and performance of the piezoelectric flag with continuous piezoelectric layer (CPL) and segmented piezoelectric layers (SPL) are investigated. The output power of piezoelectric flag with the SPL is much more than that of the CPL at 2nd and higher order vibration mode. The higher vibration mode of piezoelectric flag, the more advantage of the SPL for energy harvesting is obtained.
