Abstract

A novel low band gap polymer, poly[(2′,5′-di(α-thienyl)-3′,4′-dinitrothiophene-5,5′′-diyl)-benzylidene-block-(2′,5′-di(α-thienyl)-3′,4′-dinitrothiophenequinodimethane-5,5′′-diyl)](PDTNTBQ), was synthesized by the two-step synthetic routes. The polymer incorporates strong electron-donating and electron-accepting moieties into the conjugated poly(heteroarylene methines) backbone. The polymer was readily soluble in common organic solvents, such as chloroform and THF. The optical and electrochemical measurements showed a low band gap of ~1.10 eV.
