Abstract

Image Contrast enhancement is an imperative part of the image processing. It is a process of modifying the histogram of an image in order to enhance the image contrast and brightness for better visualization. Many techniques for the same have been proposed by researchers with the aim to optimize performance metrics such as: Absolute Mean Brightness Error (AMBE), Average Information Content (AIC), and Measurement of Enhancement (EME). The techniques available try to perk up one or more performance metrics at the cost of others. In this paper, a novel technique is proposed which augment almost all of these parameters. This proposal is a hybrid mechanism which includes many favorable characteristics of existing techniques. For the purpose of implementation MATLAB-10 is employed. The results show that proposed mechanism has least AMBE, EME, DEU and maximum AIC value in comparison to other popular techniques available in literature.
