Abstract

This work proposes a novel 12 GHz / 32 GHz dual band antenna design for Ka and Ku band application. The proposed antenna has been Electro-magnetically coupled at various points to improve its parameters. The design has a Tri-band type structure at center which is Electro-magnetically coupled at its base and further connected to the feed line of the antenna. A small rectangular patch has been embedded above the central Tri-band structure. The outer rectangular boundary of the design has been divided into two equal parts which looks like inverted U shape structure with a rectangular slot on the ground along with a Defected Ground Structure (DGS). The central Tri-band structure resonates in the Ku band region and the embedded rectangular structure makes antenna resonates in the Ka band simultaneously. The overall structure has a compact footprint of 35mmx25mm. The antenna has been simulated using Computer Simulated Software (CST) and various parameters and results have been recorded. Since the antenna has excellent Radiation characteristics with acceptable Gain and Directivity and has an even distribution of Surface current across the surface of the antenna. The proposed antenna has an excellent viability for wireless applications which demand small size, good Directivity, Gain and excellent radiation characteristics.
