Abstract

Gerontechnological devices are technologies that can assist older adults to successfully and comfortably age in place, within their own homes. Xen is a new gerontechnological device created by Neuvana, a neuroscience and biotechnology company based in the United States. This small device is controlled by a mobile app and works to send electrical signals to the vagus nerve through an ear piece. Such stimulation activates the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby reducing inflammation throughout the body. As such, Xen by Neuvana may serve as a powerful new gerontechnological device that can be used by older adults to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
