Abstract

Easy implementation of receivers in practice is vital importance for the ultra wideband (UWB) system. This paper puts forward a novel noncoherent demodulation algorithm for UWB signal reception which detects UWB signal by using zero crossing detection (ZCD) based on double thresholds. The description of algorithm, an analytical expression of the bit error ratio (BER) performance under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and simulation are provided. The results show that proposed method can remarkably obtain better BER performance than the energy detection with a little expense of complexity and greatly reduce complexity in comparison with coherent detection but about 1dB performance degradation in AWGN channel.
