Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with pattern diversity is proposed. The design consists of two symmetric ultra-wideband elements, which are miniaturized by cutting in half of a original symmetry ultrawideband antenna. The compact two-element antenna array has an overall size of $32\times 32 \text{mm}^{2}$ . Meanwhile, this miniaturization technique applied here can obtain pattern diversity by changing the symmetry of the radiators. A hybrid isolation enhancing technique consisting of an added stub and an inverted-Y slot on the ground ensures the isolation lower than −15dB over the entire UWB spectrum from 3 to 12 GHz. Envelope correlation coefficient and diversity gain are calculated to evaluate the performance of this diversity antenna, and good results are obtained.
