Abstract

This paper presents a novel brushless doubly fed generator for wind power generation. In contrast to conventional brushless doubly fed machine, the novel machine has a simple winding structure together with two stators and rotating modulation steels in the airgap. With the machine being intrinsically designed for gearless low speed operation, it could be an attractive direct drive system for small wind power generation. A 0.8 kW and 60 rpm prototype is analyzed and its performance is validated using finite element method.
