Abstract

In this article, a novel printed multiband monopole antenna is presented for communication and navigation. The antenna adopts multi-branched structure simulating antlers to achieve multiband characteristics. The electromagnetic simulation software HFSS is used to model and analyze the designed antenna. The length and width of each antler branch and the shape and size of the grounding plate are optimized. A prototype antenna is fabricated on the FR4 substrate with the thickness of 1.6 mm. Experimental results have validated the design procedure of the antenna with a volume of 40 mm × 50 mm × 1.6 mm3 and indicated the realization of the requirements for communication and navigation. The test working frequency bands are 1.60–2.78 GHz, 3.34–3.93 GHz, and 4.83–5.54 GHz. It can be applied to GSM1800, 4G LTE33-41, Bluetooth, WLAN, WiMAX, and satellite navigation systems.
