Abstract

This paper proposes the design of a dual polarization frequency selective surface (FSS). The FSS displays a high transmission, wide operational band, excellent band edge transition and dual polarization. The bandwidth of the bandpass FSS is up to 2.1 GHz at 5.26 GHz resonant frequency. The FSS has a similar transmission coefficient for different polarisations, although the structure is not rotationally symmetrical by 90° in the xy-plane. The theoretical equivalent circuit model is proposed to characterize the structure, based on analysis of the FSS structure geometry configuration and the distribution of the electric field on it. The FSS structure is built up by using a single metal-dielectric layer for easy fabrication. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed structure, the array elements are fabricated and tested in free space.
