Abstract

3D point clouds are essential sources in acquiring information for many applications such as cultural heritage protection/restoration, building information modeling and management or architectonic documentation. The quality of TLS point clouds is very important in such applications because of its completeness, and structural information capacity. With a growing demand on photogrammetric products accuracy, point cloud quality assessment has become more and more important topic. The most common type of point cloud error is measurement noise, most commonly around the edge of an object (edge of a building roof). The goal of point cloud quality assessment is to define its inner accuracy and the discrepancies especially the noise level of data. There is several statistical methods for 3D point cloud quality evaluation, but these methods threat whole signal as a unity and do not include particular characteristic. In this paper a method of quality assessment using wavelet analysis is presented.
