Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) enables the physical realization of a given geometry. Since its advent, various techniques and materials have been developed. Screw extrusion-based additive manufacturing (SEAM) is a novel technique that utilizes a single screw extruder to continuously extrude granular thermoplastics. In this research, the analysis of single screw extrusion of thermoplastics is studied for AM applications. An analytical model is presented, which is verified experimentally. A high correlation of 94.56 % is observed. The proposed model can be used to estimate crucial parameters, such as flow output and associated feed rates needed during deposition.
