Abstract

AbstractA painting is considered as an imageproducing device. Incident light is reflected, refracted, scattered and absorbed on the inward path into the paint and again on the outward path. Where the absorption is selective, the coloured light is de-saturated with white light reflected from the air/varnish and varnish/oil interfaces.
