Abstract

Several equations proposed for a gamma ray backscatter surface density gauge have been obtained by fitting functions to experimental curves. Recently, a single general equation has been derived which gives the distribution of backscattered radiation, with distance from the source, for many source energies and materials. In this paper that equation is used to derive the equation relating count rate and density for a backscatter gauge.
