Abstract

The electric field of a uniformly moving point charge is known to have a component involving the square of the velocity. For steady current flow in circuits, it is shown that the electric field at all points in space due to the velocity of the carriers is exactly balanced by the field due to the acceleration of the carriers in negotiating the bends. An experiment, sufficiently sensitive to detect either field if acting alone, gave a null result.
