Abstract A new transformation of the elliptic orbit elements to eliminate the singularities for circular or equatorial orbits is described. Formulas are developed relating the coordinates and the new elements, expressing the differentials of the coordinates in terms of differentials of the new elements, and giving the differential equations for the variation of the new elements. The developments have all been verified numerically in extensive machine tests. Also presented are a related set of elements due to R. H. Lyddane which are non- singular and canonical.
