Abstract

This paper proposes a shunt hybrid power filter (SHPF) which consists of a small-rated active power filter in series with a fifth-tuned passive filter. Since the latter takes care of the major burden of compensation, the rating of the shunt hybrid power filter is much smaller than that in the conventional shunt active power filter. A nonlinear control strategy is applied to a shunt hybrid power filter with two arms and demonstrated through simulation under steady-state and dynamic conditions aiming to reduce the number of semi conductors put on.
