Abstract
Solid-state dc circuit breaker (DCCB) based on Integrated gate-commutated thyristors (IGCTs) is one of the main types of DCCB that has a fast response as well as low power loss. However, such a DCCB technology needs an effective Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV). In addition, for high power applications IGCTs must be connected in parallel and series. For such an application, a voltage-balancing device for series IGCTs as well as current protection devices for paralleled IGCTs are needed. This paper addresses all of the mentioned challenges by proposing a new Y-DCCB that has high reliability, low cost, and high efficiency for NASA N3-X aircraft.
