Abstract

A new type of quenching and partitioning steels using martensitic microstructure prior to the quenching and partitioning process was developed. High tensile strength with large total elongation was obtained, leading to superior mechanical properties. The difference between the new type and conventional quenching and partitioning steels was studied. Excellent mechanical properties were attributed to the high volume fraction of total retained austenite, considerable amount of acicular retained austenite and the plasticization of ferrite laths.
