Abstract

In this paper, a new technique is proposed to analyze the discontinuity problems in planar optical waveguides. This new technique is based on a rapidly converging iterative mode-matching method. It uses less computation time and computer memory, which makes the analysis of dielectric discontinuities much more effective. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for the analysis of planar optical waveguides. Using this method, we can treat implicitly a very large matrix, which may be impractical otherwise.
