Abstract

A new method of measurement of the optical path difference γ introduced by elliptically birefringent medium is presented. The method allows the measurement of the ellipticity of the medium’s first eigenvector. For direct and indirect compensators theoretical investigations have been described. Numerical analysis and simple experiment have been presented only for the most interesting case of the direct compensator.
