Abstract

A new method for the determination of volume diffusion coefficients of tritium in metallic foil was developed. This method is based on the production of a rectangular concentration profile of the radionuclide in the sample. This was accomplished by irradiating the sample with energetic tritons formed in a Cu-target bombarded with, for instance, 104 MeV α-particles. The main advantage of the method described is that the influence of the oxide surface layer on the hydrogen diffusion is avoided.
