A new method has now been tested on Simulium exiguum in Ecuador, whereby replete flies are immediately preserved in Carnoýs fluid (2 parts absolute alcohol: 1 part glacial acetic acid). Flies are later immersed in water in a watch glass for up to 10 min, until the abdomen has become fully distended
