Abstract

The standard ion source, model T-2P, of the commercial mass spectrometer model RMU-6M (Hitachi, Japan) cannot be operated together with a high-temperature Knudsen cell. Nevertheless, there was a need to employ an instrument model RMU-6M in Knudsen cell mass spectrometry. A new ion source assembly is described which makes possible the combination of the instrument with a high-temperature Knudsen cell. The efficiency of the devices has been proved by detailed experiments. Second law heats of sublimation are given for several metals (Ag, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni) which agree well with compiled literature values.
