Abstract

A new correlation used to account for the inundation effect on the prediction of heat transfer between steam vapor and cooling water in tube-and-shell condensers is proposed in this work. The proposed correlation is validated by comparing the predicted results with the experimental data of a steam surface condenser. A modified k–ϵ turbulence model for gas–liquid two-phase flows with distributed flow resistance is used in the numerical simulation. The predicted results using the proposed correlation agree better with the experimental data than those obtained using the existing correlations for inundation.
