Abstract

One of the contributions which the HarvardCornell excavations at Sardis in Lydia will make is in the field of religious and cult practices of Western Anatolia.' The history of Roman religious imagery of the area has already been enriched by the discovery of the images of gods used as architectural decoration in the gymnasium.2 The new head of Zeus described here is a noteworthy addition to the sculptural representation of the gods in Asia Minor under Roman rule.
